# Update an annotation

`PATCH /api/v1/annotations/{annotationH}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://numonic.ai`
- URL: `https://numonic.ai/api/v1/annotations/{annotationH}`
- Auth: API key in header `x-api-key`

Update annotation content or visibility. Creates a new immutable version (append-only edit pattern).

## Path parameters

- `annotationH` string, required: Annotation hash (40-char hex SHA-1)

## Request body

- UpdateAnnotationRequest
  - `content` string, required: Updated annotation text
  - `visibility` 'private' | 'team' | 'public': Updated visibility level (optional - defaults to current)

## Response `200`

Annotation updated (new version created)

- SuccessMessage
  - `message` string, required: Human-readable success message

## Other responses

- `404`: Annotation not found
