# Void an envelope

`POST /v1/envelopes/{envelope_id}/void`

## Request

- Auth: HTTP bearer

Cancel a draft or sent envelope so every signing link stops working; free, CONSEQUENTIAL and irreversible. Sensitive write: it requires the human's approval to void. The charge is refunded in full only if no signer has opened their link yet.

## Path parameters

- `envelope_id` string, required: The envelope id, "sg_..." from create_envelope.

## Request body

  - `reason` string: Optional, shown to signers who open a dead link.

## Response `200`

Success.

## Other responses

- `400`: invalid_request
- `401`: unauthorized. Carries WWW-Authenticate: Bearer resource_metadata="..."
- `403`: forbidden_scope: a write tool called with a read-only key.
- `404`: not_found
- `429`: rate_limited
- `502`: provider_error
