# Create insurance coverage (beta)

`POST /insurance_coverages`

## Request body

- PostInsuranceCoverages: Create insurance coverage
  - `insurance_plan_id` integer, required: ID of the insurance plan to enroll the patient in
  - `patient_id` integer, required: ID of the patient receiving the insurance coverage
  - `subscriber_id` integer: ID of the patient who holds the insurance policy. Exactly one of subscriber_id or insurance_subscription is required. Use this when the subscriber already has an active coverage for the same plan.
  - `subscription_relation` 'self' | 'spouse' | 'child' | 'employee' | 'handicap_dep' | 'signif_other' | 'injured_plaintiff' | 'life_partner' | 'dependent' | 'other': Relationship of the patient to the insurance subscriber (e.g. self, spouse, child)
  - `priority` 'primary' | 'secondary' | 'supplemental': Priority of this coverage when the patient has multiple plans (e.g. primary, secondary)
  - `insurance_subscription` object: Subscription details for a new insurance subscription. Exactly one of subscriber_id or insurance_subscription is required. Use this when no existing subscription is on file and one needs to be created.
    - `subscriber_num` string, required: Subscriber member ID as it appears on the insurance card
    - `effective_date` string, date: Date the insurance coverage becomes effective (YYYY-MM-DD)
    - `expiration_date` string, date: Date the insurance coverage expires (YYYY-MM-DD)

    - `plan_id` integer: Plan ID
    - `subscriber_num` string: Subscriber number
    - `effective_date` string, date: Effective date
    - `expiration_date` string, date: Expiration date
    - `insurance_type` 'dental' | 'medical' | 'vision': The type of the insurance plan
    - `updated_at` string, date-time: Insurance Coverage update date in UTC
    - `active` boolean: Whether the insurance coverage is currently active
    - `subscriber` APIV31EntitiesInsuranceSubscriber
      - `id` integer: The subscriber's ID
      - `name` string: The subscriber's full name
      - `date_of_birth` string, nullable: The subscriber's date of birth in YYYY-MM-DD format
      - `postal_code` string, nullable: The subscriber's postal code
    - `benefits_remaining` APIV2EntitiesPrice
      - `amount` string: The currency value, in whole units (e.g. dollars)
      - `currency` string: The ISO currency code
  - `count` integer: Number of total objects, in case of collection.
