# Lock a single Virtual Reference Number

`PUT /virtual_reference_numbers/{uid}/lock`

Locks a Virtual Reference Number to prevent new transactions or usage. This is typically used for fraud prevention or temporary deactivation.

  - `lock_reason` 'admin' | 'customer_request', required — Lock reason

## Response `200`

The locked Virtual Reference Number resource is returned

- Schema — unresolved $ref

- `404` — The Virtual Reference Number is not found
- `422` — The Virtual Reference Number could not be locked
