# Request Free Key

`POST /api/billing/api-keys/request`

## Request

Issue a ``free`` key and e-mail it. The response is identical whether
or not a key was issued (privacy + anti-enumeration), like password
reset. Gate: one ACTIVE key per e-mail per 24 h; a key whose e-mail
could not be delivered is revoked immediately so the requester is not
locked out for a day.

Successful Response

- BillingStatusResponse: Always ``sent_if_valid`` — the free-key request never reveals whether an address is known or rate-gated.
