# Add a memory

`POST /add`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.mymemory.dev/v1`
- URL: `https://api.mymemory.dev/v1/add`

Save text or a URL. URLs are fetched and their readable content is extracted. Processing (extraction, summary, embeddings) runs in the background: the memory appears in `GET /memories` (and in its spaces) right away and becomes searchable when its `processingStage` is `ready`, usually within a few seconds.

## Request body

- object
  - `content` string, required: Text, markdown or a URL to ingest.
  - `type` 'note': Optional. Set to `note` to save `content` as a note as-is. Without it, the type is detected from `content` (a URL becomes a page, tweet, video and so on).
  - `spaces` string[]: Space IDs (`uuid` from `GET /spaces`) to file the memory in. Up to 5.
  - `tags` string[]: Up to 20 tags. Normalized to lowercase, a leading # is removed, letters and digits in any language are kept, max 32 characters each.
  - `metadata` object: Any JSON you want stored with the memory.
  - `eventAt` string, date-time: When the content happened, if different from when it was saved.
  - `title` string: Optional title. Without it one is generated.

## Response `200`

Accepted for processing

  - `id` string: The new memory's ID. Use it with `/memories/{id}`.
  - `type` string: The detected type (note, page, tweet, …).

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key
- `403`: Not allowed: someone else's memory or space, or a plan limit reached (`Memory limit reached`, `Space limit reached`)
- `409`: That content is already saved
- `429`: Too many requests. For a rate limit (`error`: `rate_limited`), wait the seconds in the `Retry-After` header; for an AI budget error, until the budget renews.
