# Record a live stream from now

`POST /v1/media/record`

## Request

- Base URL: `http://localhost:9998`
- URL: `http://localhost:9998/v1/media/record`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Starts capturing a live HLS or DASH stream from now into a flat, persistent `.mp4`
under `…/ToolPiper/SavedStreams`. Premium (Video Editing). Returns 202 with a
`rec_`-prefixed job id; stop with `POST /v1/media/record/{id}/stop` and poll
`GET /v1/media/record/{id}`.

## Request body

- object
  - `manifestUrl` string, required: HTTPS live HLS/DASH manifest URL
  - `kind` 'hls' | 'dash', required: Live stream container
  - `variantBitrate` integer: Optional variant bitrate selector (bits per second)

## Response `202`

Recording started

- object
  - `id` string, required: Recording job id (rec_-prefixed)
  - `status` string, required: Job status (processing)

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request
- `422`: Source is not a supported live HLS/DASH manifest
- `429`: Too many active recordings
- `503`: Live record service not ready
