# Get an available phone number

`GET /v1/numbers/available/{number}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://us1.platform.bird.com`
- URL: `https://us1.platform.bird.com/v1/numbers/available/{number}`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - API key in cookie `bird_session`

Returns a single phone number available for purchase, whether it is already in inventory or can be acquired for you. Numbers supplied through a carrier remain available only while the carrier has them, so a number listed a moment ago may already be gone. A `404` means the number is currently unavailable for sale.

## Path parameters

- `number` string, required

## Headers

- `X-Workspace-Id` string
- `X-Organization-Id` string

## Response `200`

The available phone number.

- AvailableNumber
  - `number` string, required: Phone number in E.164 format.
  - `country_code` string, required: ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code.
  - `number_type` string, required: Physical type of a phone number. New number types may be added over time, so treat unrecognized values as supported types rather than errors.
  - `capabilities` NumberCapability[], required: Capabilities supported by this number.
  - `ownership_registration_required` boolean, required: Whether ownership paperwork must be approved before outbound SMS and voice use. Customer availability accounts for organization exemptions; admin supplier searches report the general country and number-type requirement. You can acquire the number, including Bird stock, and submit paperwork afterward. Any `pricing.setup_price` is charged during purchase, plus any tax. The recurring charge, net of tax `pricing.recurring_price` multiplied by `pricing.intervals_per_charge`, is taken with any tax at assignment and at each renewal, even while approval is pending; assignment may follow completion of a pending supplier order.
  - `ownership_address_scope` string: Where the carrier requires the business address on this number's ownership registration to be. Present only when the carrier itself registers the number before it carries traffic and states a rule; omitted otherwise. An address that does not meet the rule is refused after purchase, and only an address that meets it can fix the registration. - `anywhere`: any business address. - `country`: a business address in the number's country. - `number_area`: a business address inside the number's own area code, for example in Amsterdam for an Amsterdam (020) number.
  - `pricing` AvailableNumberPricing: What your organization pays for an available number, net of tax, in your billing currency.
    - `setup_price` Money, required
      - `amount` string, required: Decimal amount as a string, in major currency units.
      - `currency_code` string, required: ISO 4217 three-letter currency code.
    - `recurring_price` Money, required
      - `amount` string, required: Decimal amount as a string, in major currency units.
      - `currency_code` string, required: ISO 4217 three-letter currency code.
    - `recurring_period` BillingPricingInterval, required: A period: a unit and a count. A day is a fixed 24-hour UTC period. A larger `count` lengthens the period without multiplying the amount quoted for it.
      - `unit` 'day' | 'month' | 'year', required: The recurring interval one subscription charge covers.
      - `count` integer, required: Number of units in the period.
    - `intervals_per_charge` integer, nullable, required: How many `recurring_period`s one charge bills at once. Your organization is charged `recurring_price` multiplied by this at purchase and at each renewal. `null` when `recurring_price` is `null`.

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad request
- `401`: Authentication required
- `403`: Insufficient permissions
- `404`: Resource not found
- `422`: The request has invalid field values, violates a business rule, or carries a query parameter the endpoint does not declare. Field validation errors use `type: validation_error` and include the affected fields in `details`. Business-rule errors identify the failed rule in `type`.
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded
- `500`: Internal server error
- `503`: The service is temporarily unavailable. If `Retry-After` is present, wait for that delay before retrying; otherwise, retry with exponential backoff. Reuse the same idempotency key and request when retrying a mutation.
