# Suppress an address

`POST /suppressions`

## Request

Blocks sending to one address.

## Request body

- CreateSuppressionRequest
  - `email` string, email, required: Bare email address to block; stored normalized (lowercase)
  - `origin` 'bounce' | 'complaint' | 'manual' | 'unsubscribe': Origin recorded on rows this request creates (default manual): bounce, complaint, manual or unsubscribe; an address already suppressed keeps its origin

## Response `200`

Address blocked with the given origin (bounce, complaint, manual or unsubscribe; default manual). Idempotent: an address already suppressed for any reason (bounce, complaint, unsubscribe, manual) keeps its entry and origin, and its existing id is returned.

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing, malformed or invalid API key
- `422`: Validation error
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded: 600 requests per minute per API key and 3,000 per team; wait for Retry-After
