# A member joined the Referral Program and was handed a code.

`POST referral.affiliate_joined` (webhook)

### When this fires

A member asked to join from the portal or a connector's bot, or the creator enrolled them by hand. `status` says where they stand: `approved` means their code attributes from this moment, `pending` means the programme requires approval and the creator has been told. A member the creator enrols is approved whatever the programme's switches say.

> **A code is minted, never chosen.** Seven characters from an alphabet without `0`, `O`, `1` or `I`, unique within the project. The member shares it through the portal link and the deep link of every connector the project runs.

### Caveats

- **A member joins once.** A second attempt is refused and emits nothing.
- **A customers-only programme refuses a lead.** A member with no live membership is refused and emits nothing; nothing in this family announces a refusal.

## Payload

- object: The envelope every event is delivered in.
  - `id` string, required: A ULID unique to the event, prefixed `evt_`. Every retry carries the same id, so it is the key to deduplicate on.
  - `type` 'referral.affiliate_joined', required: The event name, always `referral.affiliate_joined` here.
  - `created_at` string, date-time, required: When the event was emitted, server time, ISO 8601.
  - `api_version` string, required: The contract version of the payload shape, `2026-05-01` today. A breaking change to a shape ships under a new version.
  - `project_id` string, uuid, nullable, required: The project the event belongs to; null for team-scoped and billing events.
  - `data` object, required: The event-specific payload. Keys that do not apply to a given emission are omitted rather than sent as null, so check for presence.
    - `affiliate` object, required: The affiliate snapshot every `referral.affiliate_*` event carries.
      - `id` string, uuid, required: The affiliate's UUID, distinct from the member's.
      - `code` string, required: The code they share. **Always uppercase**: stored and compared that way.
      - `status` 'pending' | 'approved' | 'suspended', required: Their standing. Only `approved` earns.
      - `subscriber_id` string, uuid, required: The member behind the affiliate. Resolve name and contact from the API; no payload carries them.
      - `days_balance` integer, required: Days earned while they held no live membership, waiting for their next purchase.
      - `joined_at` string, date-time, required: When they joined.
      - `approved_at` string, date-time, nullable, required: When they were approved. `null` while pending.
    - `subscriber_id` string, uuid, required: The member, repeated at the top level for filtering.
    - `status` 'pending' | 'approved', required: Their standing from the start: `pending` when the programme requires approval and the member joined themselves.

## Acknowledgement `2XX`

Your endpoint acknowledged the delivery. Any 2xx status within 30 seconds marks it delivered; the response body is ignored.

## Other responses

- `default`: Any other status, a connection failure, or no answer within 30 seconds counts as a failed attempt. The delivery is retried 8 times, after 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, 1 day, 3 days; the last failure dead-letters it, and it can be retried from the dashboard or `POST /v1/webhook-deliveries/{delivery}/retry`. After 20 consecutive failures the endpoint is paused until it is resumed.
