# Search Memories

`POST /v1/search`

## Request

Passages the containers hold on a question, most relevant first, each naming its
container. Retrieval, not an answer — `POST /v1/ask` is the agent's answer.

## Request body

- SearchRequest
  - `q` string, required: The question, in natural language.
  - `container` string, nullable: One container id; omit to search every container in reach.
  - `limit` integer, nullable: How many passages to return in all, not per container. A fan-out over five containers with limit 5 answers with five passages, taking each container's best before any container's second. Unset covers every container in reach (at least 8), so none is left unheard; a container that had passages but lost them all to the budget comes back with `truncated: true`.
