# Render a static map

`POST /render/static`

## Request

Renders a viewport and overlays as a PNG. Dark and light styles use raster tiles; other style names use vector rendering. The x-mapsource-render header includes style, dataset, result-handle, render-engine, and request metadata.

When to use: Generate static maps for reports, previews, and geographic visualizations.

When not to use: Use data endpoints for feature attributes or editable geometry.

  - `lat` number: Viewport centre latitude.
  - `lon` number: Viewport centre longitude.
  - `zoom` number: Zoom level.
  - `bbox` unknown[]: [west, south, east, north]; fits the viewport to it.

  - `width` integer: Image width.
  - `height` integer: Image height.
  - `style` string: dark or light composite raster; any other name is a preset or saved profile rendered as vector.
  - `styleRevision` integer: Saved profile revision to use for rendering.
  - `bearing` number: Vector renders only.
  - `pitch` number: Vector renders only.
  - `geojson` object: GeoJSON to draw, or a result handle.
  - `markers` unknown[]: Up to fifty markers with optional labels.
