# Sample ground elevation

`GET /elevation`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.mapsource.io`
- URL: `https://api.mapsource.io/elevation`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Surface height at a coordinate, floored at sea level, with the raw model reading alongside.

When to use: Retrieve terrain height and the raw model elevation at one coordinate.

When not to use: Use route with elevation enabled for a profile along a route.

- `lon` number, required

## Response `200`

Sample ground elevation

  - `latitude` number, required
  - `longitude` number, required
  - `elevationMeters` number, required: Surface height in metres, floored at sea level.
  - `belowSeaLevel` boolean, required: True where the model reads below zero: open sea, and land such as Death Valley.
  - `sampledMeters` number, required: The raw model reading, negative below sea level.
  - `resolutionZoom` integer, required
  - `source` string, required
  - `bathymetryTile` string, uri, required: The public raster this sample came from; read the sea floor there.
  - `attribution` object[], required

## Other responses

- `400`: Error with a stable machine code.
- `401`: Error with a stable machine code.
- `429`: Error with a stable machine code.
- `500`: Error with a stable machine code.
