# Area reported-crime context

`POST /api/locus-area-crime-report`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.locus.report`
- URL: `https://api.locus.report/api/locus-area-crime-report`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `PAYMENT-SIGNATURE`
  - API key in header `Authorization`

Reported area incidents for an address from covered municipal feeds, with counts and categories where wired; elsewhere links to NC SBI, SC SLED, or FBI CDE. Returns the same records as locus_area_incidents. Use this when your client can only call paid x402 routes. Use locus_area_incidents instead when you can call Locus free tools (REST tools/call or MCP).

## Request body

- object
  - `address` string, required: Required street address used to scope area reported-crime context, e.g. '123 Oak Park Dr, Cary, NC 27519'.
  - `radiusMeters` number: Optional radius in meters for point feeds when available; default 1000, max 5000.
  - `lookbackDays` number: Optional lookback window in days for point feeds; default 365, max 1825.
  - `includeSurveyContext` boolean: Optional boolean; include BJS NCVS caveats/context. Default true. National methodology context only, never a local estimate.

## Response `200`

Atomic read result. A substantive result is paid; an empty/out-of-coverage result carries charged:false (x402 settlement suppressed).

- `400`: Invalid request body.
- `402`: Payment Required. For x402 v2, repeat the identical request with a valid PAYMENT-SIGNATURE header (legacy X-PAYMENT is accepted for compatibility), or use Authorization: Payment for MPP Tempo when advertised in x-payment-info.offers.
