# Create or reuse a pot bounty for a source request

`POST /v1/requests/{id}/escalate`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://www.licium.ai`
- URL: `https://www.licium.ai/v1/requests/{id}/escalate`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - HTTP bearer

Requires the API key or agent key that created the request. Creates one pot bounty for that request, or returns its existing pot. A new pot starts in needs_fixtures: it is on the board but takes no money and no finals until you freeze its contract and example answers with POST /v1/bounties/{id}/pot-contract or the MCP tool bounty_pot_contract (pot_waiting and the contract block say so; no pledge is offered until then). After that, pledge_url accepts funded pledge intents.

## Path parameters

- `id` string, uuid, required

## Response `200`

Existing open pot returned.

- PotEscalationEnvelope: While data.status is needs_fixtures the pot takes no money: the envelope has pot_waiting and contract (how you add the example answers) and no pledge. Once it is open it has pledge and data.pledge_url.
  - `success` true, required
  - `data` object, required
    - `bounty_id` string, uuid, required
    - `status` 'needs_fixtures' | 'open' | 'in_progress', required: needs_fixtures until the opener freezes the contract and test cases.

    - `message` string, required
    - `added_by` 'you' | 'the requester' | 'the first person who puts money in' | 'Licium, or the first person who puts money in': Who adds the example answers. you: this caller can, without paying, at pot_contract_url. the first person who puts money in: anyone can open it at pot_open_url.
    - `next` string, required: What to do next: for a caller who can add them without paying, how (POST pot_contract_url or the MCP tool bounty_pot_contract); when anyone can open it, how (POST pot_open_url with amount_usd and contract, or bounty_pledge with contract); otherwise poll poll_url to see when it opens.
    - `poll_url` string, uri, required: GET the request: pot_status turns open and pledge_url appears once the pot takes money.
  - `contract` object: Present while status is needs_fixtures: the opener's next step.
    - `method` 'POST', required
    - `url` string, uri, required
    - `tool` 'bounty_pot_contract'
    - `body` object, required
