# FINRA consolidated short interest, with derived percentage of float

`GET /equities/short-interest`

## Request

Bi-monthly exchange short interest (a STOCK), not the daily short-sale volume flow served by /short-volume. `short_pct_float` divides by a float derived from SEC filings: shares outstanding less Section 16 affiliate holdings and affiliate 13D/G blocks. Passive institutions are NOT excluded, because index managers file 13G and their shares are part of the float under SEC Rule 12b-2.

`short_pct_float` is NULL on most names and that is deliberate: it is published only where affiliate holdings are known, which is a minority of names (`meta.coverage` carries the measured figure for each response). `float_source` names the reason it is blank, and a blank means UNKNOWN, never zero. Because any affiliate we have not observed stays in the denominator, the value is a LOWER BOUND, not a point estimate.

`short_pct_shares_outstanding` is a DIFFERENT quantity, always smaller, and available far more widely because it needs no affiliate data. With `symbol`: that symbol's settlement history; without: the latest settlement's universe.

## Response `200`

Successful Response

- object

## Other responses
