# Simulate a portfolio

`POST /strategies/{strategy_uuid}/simulations`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://kovatools.com/api/v1`
- URL: `https://kovatools.com/api/v1/strategies/{strategy_uuid}/simulations`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Runs an asynchronous, ephemeral what-if evaluation. Does not create strategies, portfolios, snapshots, or briefs. The result expires after one hour. An optional strategy_content override applies only to this simulation.

- `strategy_uuid` string, uuid, required

## Request body

- SimulationCreateRequest
  - `portfolio` object, required
    - `source` 'text' | 'json', required
    - `content` string, required: Plain text when source is text; a JSON-encoded string matching portfolio_v1 when source is json. File uploads are not supported for simulations.
  - `strategy_content` string: Optional strategy override for this simulation only. Does not update the saved strategy.
  - `context` string: Optional context for the simulated brief.

Simulation queued; poll the returned URL

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing or invalid Bearer token
- `403`: Active subscription required
- `404`: Resource not found or not owned by the authenticated user
- `422`: Invalid portfolio source or content
