# Congressional member photo (JPEG)

`GET /v1/photos/{bioguideId}`

Official portrait of a member of Congress as a JPEG, keyed by bioguide ID. Self-hosted mirror of the public-domain congressional portrait collection (450x550), or, for a member that collection does not have yet, the member's portrait from the U.S. Government Publishing Office's Pictorial Directory, the official source that collection is built from (sizes vary; none over 1.5 MB). Pairs with get_member_profile, whose photo_url field points here. All plans, Free included. Each photo counts as 3 calls toward the daily allowance; the Free plan allows 2 photos a day. A member with no portrait in either source returns 404.

## Response `200`

JPEG image.

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `402`: This tool requires a higher plan (upgrade_required). Retrying will not help.
- `404`: No photo for this member.
- `429`: Tier rate/quota limit reached (rate_limited). Retry-After points at the reset.
