# Create Subaccount

`POST /portfolio/subaccounts`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://external-api.kalshi.com/trade-api/v2`
- URL: `https://external-api.kalshi.com/trade-api/v2/portfolio/subaccounts`
- Auth: API key in header `KALSHI-ACCESS-KEY` and API key in header `KALSHI-ACCESS-SIGNATURE` and API key in header `KALSHI-ACCESS-TIMESTAMP`

Creates a new subaccount for the authenticated user. This endpoint is available to all users on the Advanced API tier and above. Subaccounts are numbered sequentially starting from 1. Maximum 63 numbered subaccounts per user (64 including the primary account).

## Request body

- CreateSubaccountRequest
  - `exchange_index` integer: Identifier for an exchange shard.

## Response `201`

Subaccount created successfully

- CreateSubaccountResponse
  - `subaccount_number` integer, required: The sequential number assigned to this subaccount (1-63).

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad request - invalid input
- `401`: Unauthorized - authentication required
- `500`: Internal server error
