# Password Login

`POST /api/v1/auth/login`

Authenticate with a login ID or a verified email, and a password.

``login_id`` carries either an admin login ID or (#1678) the verified
email of an account that has a password — see
``resolve_password_login_user``. Every failure is the same generic 401;
an unknown identifier costs the same bcrypt work as a wrong password.
Failures count per resolved account, or per normalized identifier when
nothing resolves.
