# Thumbnail track for a CMAF VOD media

`GET /v2/sites/{site_id}/media/{media_id}/thumbstrip.vtt`

Returns a WebVTT thumbnail track for scrub-bar previews.

Each cue gives the URL of an image with an `#xywh=` [media fragment](https://www.w3.org/TR/media-frags/) selecting a single tile from it. Cue cadence and tile size vary by media and are not fixed values.

Only applicable to [media](https://docs.jwplayer.com/platform/reference/post_v2-sites-site-id-media) with a `renditions` hosting type (referred to as **CMAF VOD** in the dashboard). A request for a media with any other hosting type returns a 404.

A request for a CMAF VOD media with no thumbnail track also returns a 404. The response is cached only briefly, because a track can become available later.

On properties with URL signing enabled, requests must be signed. Returned media and playlist URLs are already signed. See [Protect your content with signed URLs](https://docs.jwplayer.com/platform/reference/protect-your-content-with-signed-urls) for more information.

## Response `200`

A WebVTT thumbnail track, one cue per thumbnail tile.

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad Request The request either lacks certain attributes or contains malformed/invalid attributes.
- `403`: Access is Forbidden This error commonly occurs when a user either does not have a token or uses an invalid token to request an asset that requires [URL signing](https://docs.jwplayer.com/platform/reference/protect-your-content-with-signed-urls). It may also occur due to geoblocking, account suspension, deletion, or limits reached.
- `404`: Not Found The requested asset could not be found.
- `502`: Bad Gateway The request failed due to an upstream dependency error.
