# Modify an existing Tax.

`PUT /taxes/{id}.json`

## Request body

- TaxEdit
  - `tax` TaxEditFields
    - `country` string: Country code (ISO 3166-1 alpha-2) where the Tax applies
    - `name` string: Name that identifies tax
    - `region` string: Region code where the Tax applies, or `*` for every region
    - `category_id` integer: Unique identifier of the category of the Tax
    - `tax` number, float: Tax value: a percentage, or an amount when `fixed` is true
    - `fixed` boolean: True if the tax has a fixed valued amount
    - `shipping` boolean: True if the tax should be applied to shipping costs
    - `product_type` 'physical' | 'digital' | 'gift_card', nullable: Product type the Tax applies to
    - `kind` 'tax' | 'deposit': `tax`, or a fee kind: fees are charged on their own order line apart from the order tax and added to the total. Fees require a `name`.
    - `municipality` string: Municipality code where the Tax applies, or `*` for every municipality

- `404`: Tax Not Found, or it could not be saved (validation error or invalid category).
