# Revise a rule

`PATCH /v1/rules/{lineageId}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.ironfang.com/audit`
- URL: `https://api.ironfang.com/audit/v1/rules/{lineageId}`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - HTTP bearer

Writes the next version of the rule and makes it active. Nothing about the previous revision changes, so evidence captured before the edit still names the wording that produced it. Omitted fields carry forward from the active revision.

The new active revision
