# Retire a rule

`DELETE /v1/rules/{lineageId}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.ironfang.com/audit`
- URL: `https://api.ironfang.com/audit/v1/rules/{lineageId}`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - HTTP bearer

Stops the rule being evaluated in future audits. Revisions are kept, so every historical result still resolves to the exact rule that ran. Retirement is permanent; stating the requirement again creates a new rule with its own history.
