# Returns building-level place information for the provided IP.

`GET /places/{ip}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.ipinfo.io`
- URL: `https://api.ipinfo.io/places/{ip}`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP basic
  - HTTP bearer
  - API key in query parameter `token`

Returns the real-world location associated with an IP address at the building level, including hotels, airports, museums, stadiums, and 30+ other categories. Includes venue name, category, SSID, and coordinates.

## Response `200`

Places API response object.

- PlacesResponse
  - `ip` string, required
  - `name` string: The name of the venue or building associated with the IP address. Absent for categories not tied to a specific venue, such as in_transit, in_flight, and public_space.
  - `category` string, required
  - `ssid` string, required
  - `latitude` number, nullable: Null for categories not tied to a fixed location, such as in_transit and in_flight.
  - `longitude` number, nullable: Null for categories not tied to a fixed location, such as in_transit and in_flight.

## Other responses

- `400`: If users try to access a field type that does not exist or do not have permissions to access it, they will encounter a wrong module or field type error.
- `403`: Unknown token or invalid permission. We return the same error for blocking malicious IP addresses as well.
- `429`: Allocated API rate limit has been reached for the token. The user will be prompted with options to increase their API limit.
- `500`: Internal server error or server unavailable.
