# Update dataset metadata

`PATCH /dataset/{dataset_id}`

## Request

Updates a dataset's metadata. Only `name` and `description` may be changed; everything else on the record is an identifier or derived from one (`s3_url` and `url` embed the dataset id), so changing them would orphan the stored objects.

The team record holds a full copy of each dataset, written once at creation. This endpoint rewrites that copy too, so a rename is reflected everywhere the team map is read. Data changes still go through `POST /dataset/{dataset_id}/mutation`.
