# Update a folder's visibility / grantees / name / description / tags

`PATCH /api/folders/{id}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://www.immersivecommons.com`
- URL: `https://www.immersivecommons.com/api/folders/{id}`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Clerk session or agt_ token with `files:write` (live tier re-checked). Owner or operator only. Only the five keys below are read off the body — owner, parent, id and creation time are structurally immutable.

- FolderUpdateRequest: Partial update. Only these five keys are ever read off the body.
  - `name` string
  - `description` string
  - `visibility` 'private' | 'ic-members' | 'grantees'
  - `grantees` string[]
  - `tags` string[]

## Response `200`

The updated folder.

  - `folder` FolderPublic, required: A vault folder as the caller may see it (lib/folders-types.ts::FolderPublic).

    - `owner` string, required: Clerk user id of the creator.

    - `parent` string, nullable, required: Parent folder id, or null at the root.
    - `visibility` 'private' | 'ic-members' | 'grantees', required

    - `tags` string[], required
    - `createdAt` string, date-time, required
    - `mine` boolean, required
    - `can_manage` boolean, required: True iff the caller may rename, re-share, or delete it.
    - `file_count` integer: Direct child files.
    - `subfolder_count` integer: Direct sub-folders.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid JSON or a rejected field value.
- `401`: No auth.
- `403`: Not the owner and not an operator.
- `404`: No such folder.
