# Start account owner phone verification

`POST /v1/accounts/{id}/phone-verification`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.honkio.ca`
- URL: `https://api.honkio.ca/v1/accounts/{id}/phone-verification`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`

Requires `account:m`.

## Path parameters

- `id` string, required

## Request body

  - `phone` string, required: Canadian or US NANP number in E.164, e.g. +14165551234

## Response `200`

The code was sent by SMS.

  - `sent` true, required
  - `expires_in_seconds` integer, required

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing, invalid, revoked or expired API key.
- `402`: The account has no balance, or a LIVE key was used before the first top-up.
- `403`: FORBIDDEN (not your account) or LIVE_KEY_REQUIRED (owner verification needs a live key).
- `422`: VALIDATION_ERROR: the request failed validation; details names the fields.
- `429`: RATE_LIMITED: 3 codes per hour per account.
- `500`: Unexpected server error.
- `502`: CARRIER_ERROR: the carrier did not accept the SMS.
- `503`: SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE: owner verification is not configured. CARRIER_THROTTLED: the carrier asked us to slow down and did not take the SMS; ask again after Retry-After.
