# Update an ingestion key

`PATCH /projects/{project_id}/ingestion_keys/{ingestion_key_id}`

Updates a key's label. The key itself can't be changed.

- `project_id` string, required
- `ingestion_key_id` string, required

  - `label` string, nullable: Optional human-readable name.

## Response `200`

Success

- object
  - `data` IngestionKey, required: The key your app uses to send data to Honeybadger, set as `ingestion_key` in the client's config (`api_key` in older clients). It can't authenticate to this API; use an API token for that.
    - `id` string, required: Identifier for this key. Use it in paths.
    - `project_id` string, required: Identifier of the project the key belongs to.
    - `key` string, required: The Ingestion Key value a notifier sends. Returned in full: unlike an API Token, it's meant to ship with your application.
    - `label` string, nullable, required: Optional human-readable name.
    - `created_at` string, date-time, required: When the key was created
  - `meta` ResponseMeta
    - `request_id` string: Unique identifier for the request, for correlating with support

## Other responses

- `401`: The credential is missing, invalid, expired or revoked (`unauthorized`), or was sent in a way v3 doesn't accept (see the examples).
- `403`: The credential isn't allowed to do this. `error.code` says why. An account or project the credential doesn't cover is 404 `not_found`, not 403.
- `404`: Resource not found
- `422`: Validation error
