# Update location / Network refresh

`POST /links/cellular/updatelocation`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://dashboard.hologram.io/api/1`
- URL: `https://dashboard.hologram.io/api/1/links/cellular/updatelocation`
- Auth: HTTP basic
- TypeScript: <https://skmtc.dev/hologram/apis/hologram-rest-api-v1/docs/links/cellular/updatelocation/post.ts> (a function with typed inputs; its response is checked against the schema)

Triggers an update location command for the specified profiles, using the cellular link ID for each profile. Update location / network refresh commands are not supported by all carriers. Only profiles in a `LIVE`, `TEST-ACTIVATE`, or `TEST-AUTOACTIVATE` network state can open data sessions and are eligible for this command, other states will fail.

## Query parameters

- `preview` boolean

## Request body

- object
  - `linkids` integer[], required: List of profiles to update via their cellular link IDs (up to 10)

## Response `200`

OK

- SimpleSuccessResponse
  - `success` boolean: Indicates whether the request was successful.

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad request — possible errors: "Specify at least one filter for selecting SIMs to update" (no linkids), "No links selected" (none found), "Must select no more than 10 links" (limit is 10), "There were invalid links" (inaccessible IDs), "Some links are not able to update location due to their current network state" (only LIVE, TEST-ACTIVATE, and TEST-AUTOACTIVATE network states are eligible), "Some links are not able to update location due to carrier limitations" (carrier capability). Network state and carrier capability are checked for every link, and `data` lists every failing link with its first failure (network state is checked before carrier capability). If any link fails the network state check, the network state message is returned. The whole request is rejected if any link fails a check — none of the links are updated, even ones that would otherwise be valid. These same checks run in preview mode (`?preview=1`), so a caller can validate a selection before committing to it.
- `429`: Too many requests — rate limit exceeded for location updates
