# Open a tournament to follow along on a venue TV

`POST /v1/tournaments/follow_along/join`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.hify.club`
- URL: `https://api.hify.club/v1/tournaments/follow_along/join`
- Auth: API key in header `X-User-Token`

Accepts a tournament's viewer code (or, for TVs set up before viewer codes, its referee code) and returns what a TV needs to follow it live: the tournament, its facility, and each court with its time slots. Each slot's game_id is the GameScoreChannel to subscribe to while that slot is running. Read-only — the caller does not become a referee. Fails if the code has expired.

    - `access_code` string, required: The tournament's viewer code, or for now its referee code (TVs set up before viewer codes), with or without the HIFY- prefix, in any case

  - `viewer_code` string: The code for watching scores; a client keeps it in place of the code it sent.

  - `courts` object[]: Courts with a game in the tournament, ordered by in_facility_id

    - `name` string: Court name, or "Court <in_facility_id>" when unnamed
    - `slots` object[]: The court's tournament games, ordered by start_time
      - `game_id` integer
      - `start_time` string, date-time
      - `end_time` string, date-time

## Other responses

- `400`: Missing, blank or non-text access code
- `401`: Unauthorized
- `404`: Invalid access code — no tournament found
- `422`: Access code has expired
