# Get background check details

`GET /hiring/background-checks/{backgroundCheckRequestId}`

## Request

Returns full check context after the partner receives a
`backgroundCheck.triggered` webhook. Partners fetch details before starting
processing at the provider — outbound events carry IDs only; candidate PII
is available only on this authenticated GET.

The response is company-scoped to the installing tenant and the partner
provider resolved from the OAuth app. Returns `404` when the check does not
belong to that company/provider.

Bob always returns the same fixed field set. Collecting any additional
provider-required input (for example SSN, date of birth, or consent) is the
partner's responsibility in their own flow.

**Rate limit:** 60 calls per minute

  - `backgroundCheckRequestId` string, required: Unique identifier of the background check in Bob. Matches the path parameter and webhook `data.backgroundCheckRequestId`.
  - `packageId` string, required: Package selected by the recruiter when ordering the check.
  - `candidate` BackgroundCheckCandidate, required: Candidate linked to the background check. Bob returns a fixed set of standard fields — partners cannot configure which fields are required, and Bob does not collect provider-specific custom fields (for example SSN or consent).
    - `id` string, required: Unique identifier of the candidate in Bob Recruiting.
    - `firstName` string, nullable: Candidate's given name, when available on the recruiting profile.
    - `lastName` string, nullable: Candidate's family name, when available on the recruiting profile.
    - `email` string, nullable: Candidate's email address, when available on the recruiting profile.
    - `phone` string, nullable: Candidate's phone number, when available on the recruiting profile.
  - `requester` BackgroundCheckRequester, required: Employee (recruiter) who ordered the background check in Bob.
    - `id` string, required: Unique identifier of the requester employee in Bob.
    - `firstName` string, nullable: Requester's given name, when available.
    - `lastName` string, nullable: Requester's family name, when available.
    - `email` string, nullable: Requester's work email, when available.
  - `jobOpening` BackgroundCheckJobOpening, required: Job opening the candidate applied to.
    - `id` string, required: Unique identifier of the job opening in Bob Recruiting.
    - `title` string, nullable: Display title of the job opening, when available.
  - `requestedAt` string, date-time, required: When the check was requested in Bob, as an ISO 8601 timestamp with `Z` suffix (for example `"2026-05-28T10:00:00Z"`).

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad request — the request body failed validation (for example an unsupported `status`, blank package `id`/`name`, or duplicate package IDs in the same catalog push).
- `401`: Unauthorized — the OAuth 2.0 access token is missing, invalid, or expired.
- `403`: Forbidden — the authenticated partner app does not have the `hiring.integrations:write` scope, or the background-check integration is not enabled for the installing company.
- `404`: Not found — no background check exists for the given `backgroundCheckRequestId` in the installing company for this partner provider.
- `429`: Too many requests — rate limit exceeded (60 calls per minute per operation). Retry after the delay indicated by the `Retry-After` header.
- `500`: Internal server error — an unexpected error occurred. Retry with exponential backoff; if the error persists, contact HiBob support with the `requestId` from the response body.
