# Clock in (create entry)

`POST /attendance/employees/{employeeId}/entries/clock-in`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.hibob.com/v1`
- URL: `https://api.hibob.com/v1/attendance/employees/{employeeId}/entries/clock-in`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP basic
  - HTTP bearer

Create a new attendance entry by clocking in the employee identified by the path. Returns the created entry ID.

## Path parameters

- `employeeId` string, required

## Request body

- ClockInRequestBody: Request body for clock-in when using POST /attendance/employees/{employeeId}/entries/clock-in (employeeId is in the path).
  - `clockInTime` string, date-time, required: Clock-in as a **timestamp** (date + time) in date-time format (e.g. ISO 8601). The **date part** of the timestamp must be the current date; past or future dates cause the request to fail.
  - `entryType` 'work' | 'break': Entry type; defaults to work
  - `projectId` integer: Optional project ID for project tracking. Use the <a href="#operation/post_attendance-projects-search">Search projects</a> endpoint to get available project IDs.
  - `taskId` integer: Optional task ID for task tracking. Use the <a href="#operation/post_attendance-project-tasks-search">Search tasks</a> endpoint to get available task IDs.
  - `comment` string: Optional free-text comment for the entry (max 300 characters)
  - `reasonCode` string: Optional reason code for the entry. Must be a valid string ID from the company's "Time Log Entry Reason" list (timeLogEntryReason). Use the <a href="https://apidocs.hibob.com/reference/get_company-named-lists-listname" target="_blank">company lists metadata endpoint</a> with list name timeLogEntryReason to retrieve valid reason IDs.

## Response `201`

Clock-in recorded; returns the new entry ID

- EntryIdResponse: Response containing a single attendance entry ID
  - `id` integer, required: The attendance entry ID (created or updated)

## Other responses

- `400`: The request is malformed or includes invalid parameters
- `401`: Authentication failed. Check your service user credentials
- `403`: The service user or token is missing the required permissions to access the requested data
- `404`: Feature not enabled for this company
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded - see <a href="https://apidocs.hibob.com/reference/attendance#rate-limiting" target="_blank">Rate limits</a>
- `500`: An unexpected error occurred. Try again or contact support if the issue persists.
