# Provision a free-tier API key for an email address

`POST /v5/keys/request`

## Request

Generates a ho_free_ prefixed API key. The key is not in the response; it is sent by email (currently unreliable; POST /v5/keys/instant returns a key in the response). Rate-limited to 3 requests per IP per 24 hours. No authentication required.

Key created. message is set when the mail provider accepted the email; warning is set when it did not, and the key was not delivered.

- `400`: Invalid or missing email

- `429`: Rate limited — max 3 free keys per day per IP
