# Update a membership's role

`PATCH /organization_memberships/{id}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://www.happyscribe.com/api/v1`
- URL: `https://www.happyscribe.com/api/v1/organization_memberships/{id}`
- Auth: API key in header `Authorization`

Changes a member's role to `admin` or `member`. The owner's role cannot be
changed through this endpoint. Requires an `owner` or `admin` role.

## Response `200`

The updated membership.

    - `organization_id` string: Workspace ID, beginning with `wks_`. Treat it as an opaque string.

    - `role` 'owner' | 'admin' | 'member' | 'guest'
    - `created_at` string, date-time
    - `updated_at` string, date-time

## Other responses

- `400`: `role` is not one of `admin`, `member`.
- `401`: Caller is not an `owner` or `admin`, the target is the workspace owner, or the plan does not allow the requested role.
- `404`: Membership does not exist or belongs to an archived workspace.
