# Retrieve a meeting summary

`GET /conversations/{id}/summary`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://www.happyscribe.com/api/v1`

- Auth: API key in header `Authorization`

Returns the AI-generated meeting summary for a notetaker recording. The summary
URL is also available as `meeting.summary_url` in the conversation response.

## Response `200`

The summary.

- object
  - `summary` string: The summary as plain text.
  - `summary_markdown` string: The same summary as Markdown, with the template's headings and bullets preserved.
  - `summary_sections` SummarySection[]: The summary split into its sections, in the order the summary template defines them.
    - `heading` string, nullable: The section heading as the summary template defines it. `null` for text that precedes the first heading.
    - `text` string, nullable: The section's paragraphs as plain text, separated by blank lines. `null` when the section holds only bullets.
    - `items` string[]: The section's bullet points as plain text, nested bullets flattened in order.
  - `action_items` ActionItem[]: The items of the action-items or next-steps section; an empty array when the summary has none.
    - `text` string: The action item as plain text.
    - `assignee` object, nullable: The owner. Set only when the item opens with the name of exactly one meeting participant or identified person; never inferred otherwise, and `null` for readers outside the conversation's workspace.
      - `name` string: The assignee's name.
      - `email` string, nullable: The assignee's email, when known.
      - `person_id` integer, nullable: A stable id for the assignee across meetings, when known.

## Other responses

- `401`: Your API key is missing (`missing_api_key`) or wrong (`invalid_api_key`), or it may not access this resource (`unauthorized`).
- `404`: No summary has been generated for this conversation — for example, it's not a notetaker recording, or the AI summary job hasn't completed.
