# Change Username

`PATCH /v1/profile/username`

## Request

Spend the caller's ONE username change. Returns the refreshed profile.

422 for a handle that cannot be had (format, reserved); 409 `username_taken` or
`username_change_used`. Submitting the handle already held is a no-op that succeeds
and spends nothing.

## Request body

- UsernameUpdate: The body of ``PATCH /v1/profile/username``. The exact submitted spelling is validated, never rewritten: a rejected handle must be reported, not silently corrected into something the user did not choose.
  - `username` string, required
