# Create Agent Work Item

`POST /agent/work-items`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://be.graph8.com/api/v1`
- URL: `https://be.graph8.com/api/v1/agent/work-items`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Start a unit of autonomous work. THE AGENT BEGINS PLANNING IMMEDIATELY.

`agent_id` selects the planner template. A known id gets its own template;
anything else falls back to `full`, which is why it is an open string
rather than an enum - an enum would reject the ad-hoc case the planner
explicitly supports.

`visibility` defaults to `private`: work started through a key is not
visible org-wide unless asked for.

`user_email` defaults to the identity the key was minted under, so the item
belongs to a real person rather than to nobody.

## Headers

- `Authorization` string, nullable
- `X-Target-Org-Id` string, nullable

## Request body

- AgentWorkItemCreateRequest: Start a unit of autonomous work.
  - `agent_id` string, required: Which agent owns it. A known id the planner has a template for - `onboarding`, `dialer_setup`, `sequencer_setup`, `campaign_run`, `voice_setup`, `marketplace`, `dev_setup` - or a free-form value, for which the planner falls back to its `full` template. Left as an open string for that reason: an enum here would reject the ad-hoc case the planner explicitly supports.
  - `title` string, required
  - `goal` string, required: What the agent should achieve.
  - `visibility` 'shared' | 'private': `private` (default) or `shared` org-wide. The default is the safe one: work started through an API key is not visible to the whole org unless asked for.
  - `entry_point` string, nullable: Per-session override. Unset, the planner reads the org's own signup entry point as the long-term truth - so omitting this is usually right.
  - `subject_account_id` string, nullable: Bind the session to a company.
  - `subject_campaign_id` string, nullable: Bind the session to a campaign.
  - `session_title` string, nullable: Sidebar title. Defaults to `title`.
  - `seed_message` string, nullable: First user message, so the session opens on the real request.
  - `skill_mode` string, nullable: `web_search`, `deep_thinking` or `research`. Biases the planner prompt and model tier. Unknown values are IGNORED by the planner rather than rejected, which is why this is not an enum.
  - `page` string, nullable
  - `source` 'canvas' | 'bridge', nullable
  - `platform` 'whatsapp' | 'slack' | 'roam' | 'imessage', nullable
  - `user_email` string, nullable: Whose work item this is. Defaults to the identity the key was minted under.

Successful Response

- ApiResponseAgentWorkItem
  - `data` AgentWorkItem, required: One unit of autonomous work.
    - `id` string, nullable
    - `work_item_id` string, nullable
    - `agent_id` string, nullable
    - `title` string, nullable
    - `goal` string, nullable
    - `status` string, nullable
    - `visibility` string, nullable
    - `session_id` string, nullable
    - `created_at` string, date-time, nullable
    - `updated_at` string, date-time, nullable
  - `pagination` PaginationMeta
    - `page` integer, required: Current page number (1-indexed)
    - `limit` integer, required: Items per page
    - `total` integer, required: Total number of items
    - `has_next` boolean, required: Whether there are more pages
    - `next_cursor` string, nullable: Opaque cursor for the next page; null when there are no more items. Pass it back as the `cursor` query param to fetch the following page without computing page numbers.
    - `total_available` integer, nullable: Search endpoints only: how many records really match, when known. Can be larger than `total`, which is capped at the 10,000 results that can be paged. For company search this is a distinct-company estimate. Null when unknown; absent outside search.
    - `total_is_lower_bound` boolean, nullable: Search endpoints only: true when more records match than `total` shows (the result set is larger than the 10,000 results that can be paged). Absent outside search.
    - `notes` string[], nullable: Search endpoints only: plain-language notes about the result, e.g. that more records match than can be paged, or that a reversed `between` range was put in order.
