# Update Campaign Ad

`PATCH /ad-campaigns/{campaign_id}/ads/{ad_id}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://be.graph8.com/api/v1`
- URL: `https://be.graph8.com/api/v1/ad-campaigns/{campaign_id}/ads/{ad_id}`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Edit one ad's creative.

Check ``replaced_platform_ad`` in the response: on a live campaign most
creative edits archive the platform ad and create a new one, restarting
policy review and delivery learning. The graph8 ad id and its measurement
history survive that.

## Path parameters

- `campaign_id` integer, required: Ad campaign ID
- `ad_id` integer, required: graph8 ad ID

## Headers

- `Authorization` string, nullable
- `X-Target-Org-Id` string, nullable

## Request body

- AdUpdateRequest: Edit one ad. Omitted fields are unchanged. On a live campaign a creative change is applied as a REPLACE, because that is what the platforms permit. The response reports whether the platform ad was replaced so a caller knows review and learning restarted.
  - `name` string, nullable

## Response `200`

Successful Response

- ApiResponseAdUpdateResponse
  - `data` AdUpdateResponse, required
    - `ad` AdResponse, required: One ad inside a campaign — a creative slot. ``id`` is graph8's, and it is stable: editing an ad almost always mints a new platform ad (LinkedIn creatives are immutable, and on Google only Search/RSA is mutable in place), but the slot and its measurement history survive that. Address an ad by this id, never by ``platform_ad_id``.
      - `id` integer, nullable: graph8 ad id, stable across creative replacements. Null only for a campaign launched before per-ad control, until its first read.
      - `campaign_id` integer, required
      - `slot_index` integer, required
      - `name` string, nullable
      - `status` string, required: draft | launching | active | paused | archived | failed
      - `headline` string, nullable
      - `primary_text` string, nullable
      - `description` string, nullable
      - `cta` string, nullable
      - `destination_url` string, nullable
      - `creative_image_url` string, nullable
      - `creative_image_url_square` string, nullable
      - `creative_image_url_portrait` string, nullable
      - `logo_image_url` string, nullable
      - `copy_assets` object, nullable: Multi-asset copy, e.g. {rsa_headlines: [...], rsa_descriptions: [...]}
      - `source_ad_creative_id` string, nullable: The Studio creative this ad was built from, when it came from Studio
      - `platform_ad_id` string, nullable: Current platform handle. Changes when the creative is replaced.
      - `approval_nuance` string, nullable
      - `policy_topics` object[], nullable
      - `error_message` string, nullable
      - `launched_at` string, nullable
      - `created_at` string, nullable
    - `changed` string[], required
    - `replaced_platform_ad` boolean, required: True when the platform ad was recreated; review and learning restart
    - `consequences` string[]: policy_review | learning_reset
  - `pagination` PaginationMeta
    - `page` integer, required: Current page number (1-indexed)
    - `limit` integer, required: Items per page
    - `total` integer, required: Total number of items
    - `has_next` boolean, required: Whether there are more pages
    - `next_cursor` string, nullable: Opaque cursor for the next page; null when there are no more items. Pass it back as the `cursor` query param to fetch the following page without computing page numbers.
    - `total_available` integer, nullable: Search endpoints only: how many records really match, when known. Can be larger than `total`, which is capped at the 10,000 results that can be paged. For company search this is a distinct-company estimate. Null when unknown; absent outside search.
    - `total_is_lower_bound` boolean, nullable: Search endpoints only: true when more records match than `total` shows (the result set is larger than the 10,000 results that can be paged). Absent outside search.
    - `notes` string[], nullable: Search endpoints only: plain-language notes about the result, e.g. that more records match than can be paged, or that a reversed `between` range was put in order.
