# Create folder.

`POST /folders`

## Request

- Base URL: `/api` (relative, and the document’s source URL is not known)
- URL: `/api/folders`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP basic
  - API key in header `Authorization`

> **Deprecated.**

If nested folders are enabled then it additionally expects the parent folder UID.

Use: /apis/folder.grafana.app/v1/namespaces/{ns}/folders/{folder_uid}

## Request body

- CreateFolderCommand: CreateFolderCommand captures the information required by the folder service to create a folder.
  - `description` string
  - `parentUid` string
  - `title` string
  - `uid` string

  - `accessControl` Metadata: Metadata contains user accesses for a given resource Ex: map[string]bool{"create":true, "delete": true}
  - `canAdmin` boolean
  - `canDelete` boolean
  - `canEdit` boolean

  - `createdBy` string
  - `hasAcl` boolean
  - `id` integer: Deprecated: use UID instead
  - `managedBy` string: It can be a user or a tool or a generic API client. +enum
  - `orgId` integer
  - `parentUid` string: only used if nested folders are enabled
  - `parents` Folder[]: the parent folders starting from the root going down
  - `title` string
  - `uid` string
  - `updated` string, date-time
  - `updatedBy` string
  - `url` string
  - `version` integer

## Other responses

- `400`: BadRequestError is returned when the request is invalid and it cannot be processed.
- `401`: UnauthorizedError is returned when the request is not authenticated.
- `403`: ForbiddenError is returned if the user/token has insufficient permissions to access the requested resource.
- `409`: ConflictError
- `500`: InternalServerError is a general error indicating something went wrong internally.
