# Update a metadata item

`PUT /gdc/projects/{projectName}/dataload/metadata/{key}`

## Request

You can update only a metadata key value. A key name cannot be changed.

## Request body

- MetadataItem1
  - `metadataItem` MetadataItemCommon, required
    - `key` string, required: Key of metadata item, only values matching \[a-zA-Z0-9-_]+\ regexp are permitted
    - `value` string, required: Value of metadata item

## Response `200`

OK - updates a CloudConnect metadata item, <key> must be exactly same as MetadataItem.key (key can't be changed)

  - `metadataItem` MetadataItemResponse, required
    - `key` string, required: Key of metadata item, only values matching \[a-zA-Z0-9-_]+\ regexp are permitted
    - `value` string, required: Value of metadata item
    - `links` object
      - `self` string, required

## Other responses

- `404`: Not Found - either the project or the CloudConnect metadata items doesn't exist
