# Update conversation custom metadata

`PATCH /v1/conversations/{call_id}/metadata`

Applies a [JSON merge patch](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc7396) to a conversation's custom metadata and
returns the resulting metadata. Keys set to `null` are removed, nested objects are merged recursively, and all
other values replace the existing value. If the conversation has no metadata, the patch is applied to an empty
object. The result has the same size and depth limits as PUT.

## Path parameters

- `call_id` string, required: ID of the call whose metadata to update.

## Request body

- object: A JSON merge patch (RFC 7396) object.

## Response `200`

  - `metadata` object, required

## Other responses

- `400`: Metadata is nested more than 5 levels deep, or contains NaN or Infinity.
- `401`: Missing or invalid credentials.
- `404`: Conversation not found.
- `413`: Metadata exceeds 4 KiB when serialized.
- `422`: Validation Error
