# Request a phone verification code

`POST /v1/phone/request-otp`

## Request

Runs `phone.requestOtp` (public — the post-signup verify-phone flow). Sends a 6-digit SMS code to the E.164 phone and returns `{ verificationPublicId }`. Rate-limited and suppressed numbers get the SAME response shape by design, so callers cannot enumerate which numbers are blocked.
