# Ask for a different answer

`POST /v1/chat/messages/{messagePublicId}/regenerate`

## Request

- Auth: HTTP bearer

Runs `chat.regenerateMessage`; owner-only, assistant messages only. This records the intent and resolves the prompt the answer came from — it does NOT stream. The client drops the old answer and opens an ordinary turn, passing the returned `parentUserMessagePublicId` as `parentMessagePublicId` so both answers hang off the same prompt.
