# UK import duty and VAT estimator

`POST /api/duty`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://www.freightutils.com`
- URL: `https://www.freightutils.com/api/duty`
- Auth: none declared

Estimate UK import duty and VAT using live GOV.UK Trade Tariff data.

## Request body

- object
  - `commodity_code` string, required: UK commodity code. A declarable code is 10 digits; a 6- or 8-digit code is refused with HTTP 400 and declarable_codes — the 10-digit codes beneath it in the UK Trade Tariff — never padded with zeros.
  - `origin_country` string, required
  - `customs_value` number, required: Goods value in GBP, greater than 0 — a number, or its digits as text. Anything else is refused with 400.
  - `freight_cost` number: Freight cost in GBP, 0 or more (default 0). A negative or non-numeric cost is refused with 400 — it would change the CIF value duty is charged on.
  - `insurance_cost` number: Insurance cost in GBP, 0 or more (default 0). A negative or non-numeric cost is refused with 400 — it would change the CIF value duty is charged on.
  - `incoterm` string

## Response `200`

Duty and VAT estimate

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid parameters: a commodity_code that is not 10 digits (a 6- or 8-digit code is refused with declarable_codes, the 10-digit codes beneath it in the UK Trade Tariff), an origin_country that is not ISO 3166-1, a customs_value not above 0, or a negative cost.
