# Poll an async print request for its PDF

`GET /api/v2/applicant-print-requests/{external_id}/download`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.fountain.com`
- URL: `https://api.fountain.com/api/v2/applicant-print-requests/{external_id}/download`
- Auth: API key in header `X-ACCESS-TOKEN`

Returns the current state of an async print request. While the background job is still running this responds with 202; once the PDF is uploaded to S3 it responds with 200 and a presigned S3 URL valid for 1 hour. Requests that fail return 410 and requests older than 24 hours return 404.

PDF ready — body includes presigned S3 URL

  - `status` 'completed', required
  - `file_url` string, uri, required: Short-lived presigned S3 URL for the PDF

## Other responses

- `202`: PDF still being generated
- `401`: Unauthorized
- `404`: Print request not found or expired
- `410`: PDF generation failed
