# Add base_subscriber role for a User

`PUT /api/users/{id}/base_subscriber`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://dev.to`
- URL: `https://dev.to/api/users/{id}/base_subscriber`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `api-key`
  - HTTP bearer

Assign the base_subscriber role to a user.

### Base Subscriber Details:
- Requires an admin role or the `super_moderator` role.
- Uses the same path as granting "Base Subscriber" in the admin UI: adds the role, adds a note to the user, and sends the user the base subscriber email.
- Idempotent: if the user already has the role, nothing changes (no note, no email) and the response is still 204.

## Path parameters

- `id` integer, required

## Response `204`

base_subscriber role assigned to the user successfully

## Other responses

- `401`: Unauthorized
- `404`: Unknown User ID

## Changes

- **2026-10-22** (v1) `65d1431d8ac2`: 1 info
  - endpoint added
