# Set the declared IANA timezone. Does not affect routine notifications or daily stats, which follow the device-synced timezone.

`PATCH /user/timezone`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.focusbear.io` (the document declares no server; this is the origin it was published from)
- URL: `https://api.focusbear.io/user/timezone`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

## Request body

- UpdateUserTimezoneDto
  - `timezone` string, required: Named IANA timezone identifier. UTC offsets such as "UTC+10:00" or "+05:00" are rejected.

## Response `200`

Updated timezone

- UserTimezoneResponseDto
  - `timezone` string, nullable, required: The timezone the user has explicitly declared, or null when they have never set one. Clients should fall back to their own local zone on null rather than assuming UTC.

## Other responses

- `400`: Not a named IANA timezone
- `404`: No user row exists for the authenticated identity
