# Get gateway information

`GET /gateway/bot`

Retrieves gateway connection information and recommended shard count for establishing WebSocket connections.

## Response `200`

Success

- GatewayBotResponse
  - `url` string, required — WebSocket URL to connect to the gateway
  - `shards` integer, required — Recommended number of shards to use when connecting
  - `session_start_limit` object, required — Session start rate limit information
    - `total` integer, required — Total number of session starts allowed
    - `remaining` integer, required — Remaining number of session starts
    - `reset_after` integer, required — Milliseconds until the limit resets
    - `max_concurrency` integer, required — Maximum number of concurrent IDENTIFY requests

- `400` — Bad Request - The request was malformed or contained invalid data
- `429` — Too Many Requests - You are being rate limited
- `500` — Internal Server Error - An unexpected error occurred
