# Read one card without its answer

`GET /cards/{cardId}`

## Request

Routine read. One card this token owns. Prompts only. answerIncluded is false. Includes deckNote and cardNote. The fields match the deck inventory. Coaching notes are instructions for how an agent should quiz and coach. They are not the answer, not graded content, and not the quiz prompt. A deck note applies to every card in that deck. A card note is optional and additive with the deck note. Retrieve responses (listDue, upcoming-new, inventory, getCard, reveal, and agent session start/next/grade) include deckNote and cardNote so one call carries coaching context. Scripture / dictation: The learner needs every word remembered correctly, but often answers via dictation where punctuation gets messy. They set a deck note instructing the agent to check every word exactly, but not fail on punctuation differences, and to include that reason when coaching. This is only an example — notes can be any coaching preference for how agents should quiz/coach for that deck (or a specific card). A retired card is 404, the same as reveal. Another token's card is 404. This does not reveal the answer.

  - `deckNote` string, nullable, required: Deck coaching instructions for the agent. Null when unset. Not the quiz prompt and not the answer.   - `cardNote` string, nullable, required: Optional card-specific coaching note. Null when unset. Additive with deckNote.
  - `dueAt` string, required: UTC ISO-8601 timestamp ending in Z
  - `queue` 'learning' | 'review' | 'new', required: Same names as listDue. Inventory order is dueAt ascending, then createdAt, then cardId, which is not the drill order.
  - `retiredAt` string, nullable, required: Null while the card is drilled. An ISO timestamp when includeRetired is true and the card has been retired.
  - `answerIncluded` false, required

## Other responses

- `400`: cardId is not a UUID.
- `401`: Missing or wrong token.
- `404`: No active card with that id for this token.
